[The 2008 Horizon Report from educause.org, highlights technologies that the underlying research suggests will become very important to K-12 and higher education over the next one to five years. The main focus of the discussion of each technology is its relevance for teaching, learning, and creative expression. This afternoon we will take some time to read and respond to the summary and to the Grassroots Video sections. (Please save the document, we will be using it again in our next session…)

After reading the article and visiting some of the links, think about the recent advances in this type of technology and write about possible uses in school in the near future.

In the article, Tools for the Mind, the author, Mary Burns discusses how even with the vast potential of technology, for the most part schools are using computers primarily to teach low-level skills. After reading the article, discuss why you think this is the case and what needs to be done to move schools to more creative uses of technology.
