Please read the ISTE NETS Standards for Teachers. After reading them please respond in the comments with your thoughts. Please view these standards through the lens of your current program and discuss if you feel you are being prepared to teach in accordance with these standards…

Can I just say…”I am not prepared!” I don’t feel that my school is preparing any of their teacher to really meet these standards. We have had some prof development but it was limited to those who have active boards in there rooms. I think this class has given me the jumping off point to try many new things. These standards scare me, but then I think, “They are like every other standard, too high for what prof. development we are given.”

My goal is to try to add some of these things into my classroom next year and just keep adding to it!

After reading the ISTE NETS standards, I feel that I am being prepared to reach my students based on their needs and learning styles etc.- but not from the standpoint of using technology to inspire students, design technology related assessments, or to promote citizenship.

I feel that this course is the only one so far in this program that has prepared me for helping students technology wise. I feel that I am much more prepared to work with the technology that is currently relevant, and that students might be familiar with. I do not feel though, that I would be in a position to teach this technology to others. I do feel that I could use the technology we have learned in this class to communicate information to students and parents.

With the issue of being prepared to teach according to these standards is kind of funny to me. I do not feel we are being prepared to teach according to the ISTE standards. Other than this class, I do not feel that we have been prepared to use technology in our teaching. We have been given some resources to use but besides this class, I don’t feel like other classes have done much. I am confident that I could probably meet these standards on my own or by doing my own research and learning and passing it on to my students. The one standard that kind of stuck out to me was the one about current and emerging digital tools is the issue of time and money. I think most teachers would have a problem with that.

I think a big problem that I have is that things we learn do not seem to apply to my content of PE that easily.

I have been very impressed with the commitment of the District and Five Oaks’ teachers to their professional growth so that they can reach more students. The last four years, the former principal, made consistent digital equipment additions.

There are times, however, it is overwhelming in being able to maintain all the equipment. This is definitely a full time position.

If I can integrate one or two new technology options into my teaching each year I will feel successful.

I am getting prepared. I think I am getting a handle on technology that I can use in the classroom. Probably will start out cautiously and let trial and error help me develop what I do. I bet I will also learn for the kids and other teachers.

But I still think of the kids that don’t have easy access to technology. How will that work out? But I am elementary ed so perhaps not as important? I will focus more on usig technology in the classroom to teach by modeling and also teach about appropriate use.
